What is Hatha Yoga?
The origin of the word is Sanskrit, divided into two ‘Ha’ means the sun, and ‘Tha’ means the moon. Hatha yoga is known as a physical practice to balance the energy channels of the sun and the moon in our bodies. The origin of Hatha Yoga is quite unclear but the practice dates back to the time of Buddha.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?
Vinyasa means a flowing sequence that connects one asana to the other. Modern Vinyasa yoga coordinates the breath with the vinyasa transition movements between the asana. It focuses more on the breath work of an Individual while moving from one asana to the other. Much like the physical body is dependent upon the breath to move. So with every inhale, there is a movement and with every exhale there is a movement. The purpose of Vinyasa is to purify the blood as it increases heat in the body.
Difference between Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga
Both these practices follow poses and postures which are of Hatha Yoga but while practising Vinyasa, these movements turn into a flow. Our breath indicates us to move from one asana to the other. While Hatha yoga is more about strength, flexibility and stillness.
One can choose to see Vinyasa as a little more intense practice than Hatha as it has constant movements like a flow. Hatha yoga also encourages movements through proper inhalation and exhalation but we work up to move into a peak posture during the practice of Hatha Yoga while Vinyasa yoga is about non-stop movements in every practice. It can also be considered a little bit of an advanced level of practice because one needs to know the basics of Hatha yoga to practice Vinyasa Yoga.
